Defensive Countermeasure: The Grounding Sigil

I have created a sigil designed to ground the energy of myself and my immediate area. This sigil will be useful in situations where tension is rising or peaked. This can also help clear an area of aftermath, say as in after an argument or fight. I chose grounding because I like the feeling of a cleared room just after one has burnt white sage, and I wished to emulate this effect while at work, traveling, etc. This sigil can be carved onto my Defensor’s Stave, burned on a piece of leather and kept on a key ring, or scribbled on the inside of my note book in times of need.

The following is a description for the creation process of this sigil, outlined by the photo I have included.

1: The spoken word that sums up my intent, and its translated form. As there are no repeating letters, none needed to be taken out.

2: The first concept, I started with the d figure because it felt it would pull and contain all energies of negative intent. The equal sign felt good for directing energy to that d figure. But the sideways tic and c figure felt like they were shifting the energy into a wrong direction.

3: I moved the tic to the middle of the spine on d, where I felt it would balance and strengthen the figure. The n c at the top of the spine felt close, but the n felt displaced. The s, which I thought could be the sign for the negative energy, also felt as if it were displacing the energy.

4: Closer! I changed the angle of the s, but continue to have the same result. I rotated the n to form an incomplete symbol for Pisces and peace, which felt good as this sigil is about attaining peace. The desire in me to complete that part of the sigil can be used to desire peace all around me.

5: Adjusted the angle for the last time on the s in hopes of being a filter for energy, but it just felt in the way.

6: Moved the s to the opposite corner, detached from all around me. This feels right as it’s detaching negative energy from around me. The tic in the middle of the spine feels like a protective thorn against negative energy as well.

All in all, I am very pleased with this sigil, and plan to add it to my Defensor Stave. Currently that stave is made of oak, about 4’ 8”, and has defensive sigils burned into it for quick access. (E.g.: shield, need, ward, detect ect.)

V: Familiar Workings

This is the Familiar, Tiki. He's a Sun Conure, and only 1.5 years old, so he's got a lot of learning to do! He's messy, he's noisy, and he loves me to death. So far, he's been heard to say "pretty boy" "Hahaha!" and "Pbththth". Not quite sure where he picked that last part up, but he sure likes to laugh after saying it.

IV: Wizardly Workings

This is the altar where I cast my spells. Some of this equipment, such as the altar and black mirrir, have been with me since I began 10 years ago. Others, like the Athame or the wand, are only yearlings picked up in Scotland and the Mojave Desert, respectively.

III: Current Projects

List current projects for the GSW.

So as of now, my projects include three classes, plus refining ideas to bring more experience to the Defensor's Club. My next major undertaking over the next six months is to study each native plant to my local area, and discover any natural or metaphysical uses for each of them. I'm also taking time to read up on some interesting Social Engineering novels, such as Mind Hacks.

II: New Years Resolution

For this New Year, I WillowRune resolve to reach Journeyman status. I will not rush through my studies to obtain this goal, but endevor to study longer and harder to reach this goal more effectively.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I: Recounting History

Magick is real.
Know Yourself.
The best way to predict the future is to create it.
Question Authority.
Magick is both an art and an experimental science.
Be Mindful.
Intent controls results.
Don't invoke what you can't banish.
Always consider the options.
The job isn't done until you've put away the tools and cleaned up the mess.
Be Silent.

I name myself WillowRune.

WillowRune do I know.

I am now WillowRune.

And what I say three times is so!

By all the powers of Land and Sea.

By all the might of Moon and Sun.

As I do will, so mote it be;

Seal the spell and be it done!

Hear me, Ancient Ones!

Guides, Guardians, Powers!

It is I, WillowRune!

In this sacred space I open myself.

In this sacred space and time I am changed.

I align my soul to it’s greatest purpose!

I do call upon the Gods to witness my dedication

And acknowledge my ever-deepening connection!

I do call upon the Old Ones, the Ancestors, the Elements, and the Web that connects us all.

Hear now my solemn vow of dedication:

Here in this Powerful and Holy moment I pledge my path to Living Magick!

From this moment onward I declare myself a Vessel of Change, a true Seeker of the way of the Magus, a Weaver in the Sacred Web of life!

Let this dedication be acknowledged and honored in the eyes of men and creatures, Ancients and Ancestors, Gods and Goddesses.

By my will so shall this be!

I, WillowRune, do hereby swear, on my honor as an Apprentice Wizard and Prefect, that I will always and faithfully observe and preserve the ethics and traditions of the Grey School of Wizardry. I will always regard my ties to the school and my role as Prefect as binding, and will seek to preserve a cheerful spirit, even in light of the tasks and responsibilities that face me.

In all things I will endeavor to show enthusiasm, pride, patience and honesty. In so far as my power lies, I will devote myself not only to my own magickal growth, safety and enjoyment, but that of the students, faculty and administration as well. To these words I, WillowRune, set my name and give my Solemn Pledge. As above, so below. So mote it be.

I, WillowRune, do hereby swear upon my honor as an Apprentice of the Grey School of Wizardry, to act as Defensor to the Defense against the Dark Arts Club. I shall dedicate myself to the defense of my community against unwanted, aggressive, or deliberately harmful actions, be they Magickal or Mundane. Who should ever seek protection, help or advice, I WillowRune will endeavor to give aid as possible, or refer them to a Defensor more experienced than I.

As Defensor, I WillowRune, promise to regard my duty to the Defense against the Dark Arts club as binding, and will endeavor to perform said duties with respect, honesty, patience and honor.

HONOR ABOVE ALL!
